HISTORY OF MCCC

The Centre was originally sponsored by the Gold Coast City Council who co-ordinated the provision of the Centre from State and Government funding which was made available to the local community. The State and Federal Governments provided the land and building of the Centre and the local council provided extra inclusions such as carpets, awnings etc.

There was also an initial equipment grant provided by the Federal Government. The inaugural Director, Ms Christine Holden, was appointed in January 1988 along with the formation of an interim Management Commitee, which allowed parents and other interested members of the community, the opportunity to participate constructively in the management and also be immediately responsive to the needs of the Centre.

The centre commenced operation on 3rd May 1988. The Director and her staff had little difficulty in filling places at the Centre and this well motivated Centre commenced its history of providing excellent quality childcare in a warm and caring community environment.

The first permanent Management Committee was appointed at the first Annual General Meeting on the 14th September 1988 and the Association was made an Incorporation body on the 3rd November 1988.

PARENT INVOLVEMENT
Parents are welcome at the Centre at all times.  Parents can be involved in the Centre in many ways. – Help for a few minutes or a few hours is appreciated by staff and children alike.  Staff are more than happy to explain why activities are designed the way they are.  The ongoing program within the Centre is designed to keep Parents abreast of the type of care and learning the children are receiving.  The program includes information nights for Parents etc.
The Centre is run by a Committee, elected by the members (all Parents become members of the M.C.C.C. Association in order to use the facility.) This committee is elected annually and it manages the Centre, developing policies, managing the finances, employing staff, etc.  All Parents are welcome to attend the meetings every third Tuesday of the month.  Minutes of these meetings will be posted in the foyer.

Signing IN / OUT  … Children must be   signed in and out of the Centre.  In case of emergency we need to be sure of who is in the Centre.  This is the Parents responsibility, so please make sure this is done.  Also please inform staff if:
* Someone different is picking up your child.
* Your child is sick.
* Custody arrangements have changed.
* You have changed address / or phone number.
PLEASE let the staff know when you are leaving the Centre with your child.

WHAT HAPPENS IN THE CENTRE WITH THE CHILDREN – PROGAMS…
The Centre aims to provide a homelike atmosphere within a caring and stimulating environment.  Parents are encouraged to participate in the program planning with the Group Leaders by:
* Telling us about interests, needs and patterns of behaviour for everyday routines.
* Contributing from your own diverse skills, culture etc.

Each Room has an individual program with regular observations and assessments.  The aim is to provide an interesting program that assists each child to reach their fullest potential.

Sharing and co-operating with other children is encouraged by the staff.  The play activities each day will generally include painting, play dough, pasting, puzzles, blocks and outdoor activities etc.

A variety of Family Days and activities are planned during the year for the Parents to meet each other and their children’s friends. The goal with these types of days is to foster a Community spirit in the Centre.
Information about what is happening at the Centre is presented in the monthly Newsletter, at the Monthly Committee Meeting and by talking to the staff.
